Bamboo Fence
A Bamboo fence is one of the most versatile materials for landscaping in use today. It is one of the most durable materials available, being up to 5 times stronger than concrete yet flexible enough to be woven into any design you can imagine.
You can build a bamboo fence from preformed panels or harvest it from your own hedges that are already growing. Since Bamboo is a grass, it can be harvested and used to build a fence, and the original source will regrow in a few weeks. A bamboo fence is very resistant to decay and will last for years.
Some of the things to observe in building a bamboo fence are that it needs to not be in contact with the ground. For best results it needs to be several inches above the ground, for the uprights, if you use bamboo poles in your fence you need to backfill the holes with concrete to minimize contact with the ground. The best thing here is to use hardwood pressure treated poles and attach the grass to them. You can then build any style of fence you can imagine. Just remember you will need some gloves, a fine blade saw, something to split the poles with, and some dark twine or some other material to tie the bamboo together.
When selecting the material for your bamboo fence you can go bold or subtle in your design. You can use the smaller varieties as is, just cut to length and tie together. Or go bold and use the larger varieties, just split the poles, cut to length and tie together. One tip – if you need to nail or cut holes in the poles, pre-drill the holes to prevent splitting the poles.
When you build your bamboo fence you are using one of the most environmentally versatile materials in the world. It’s one of the tallest grasses in the world. And can regenerate in just a few months, unlike hardwood forests that can take as long as 60 years to regrow. And the hollow design makes it lightweight and the tough exterior makes it strong and durable.
And for your bamboo fence you can also choose whether to go big and bold, or go with some of the more
subtle colors and textures. You can build your bamboo fence as a primary fence or as something to accentuate part of your yard. It’s a wonderful way to highlight your gazebo or to hide that unsightly shed in the corner of your yard. No matter what you use it for, it will certainly enhance the value of your property and when it is done; your bamboo fence will be something that will make your family proud.
